"Game of Thrones" Easter Egg Hatches in Google Maps - Webmaster News

Google’s latest easter egg is a subtle nod to Game of Thrones enthusiasts.

When travelers use Google Maps to search for directions from Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, to Brecon Beacons in South Wales, they are given an option for dragon travel.

Dragon Mode

So that’s what Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons have been up to all season.

Apparently, the 122-mile journey would take a short 21 minutes atop one of the winged beasts.

Unfortunately, dragon travel is only open to those in Wales, because these dragons also need time to take over King’s Landing. It seems Google may have picked Wales as the location, not because the country’s resemblance to Westeros, but because the Welsh flag boasts a fiery-red dragon. (Or is Google trying to give us hints at future GoT plot points?)

Google Maps has often made references to popular fantasy series through its easter eggs. In 2013, it provided tours of the TARDIS from Doctor Who, and, in 2011, it referenced an epic meme if fans of Lord of the Rings attempted to search for directions to Mordor.
