500px|FacebookIn this gorgeous night-time capture by Jacopo Martocchi, we see fog brightened by the city lights of Chiavenna, Italy. The synthetic light gives the fog a ‘lava-like’ quality.
Chiavenna is a city (town) in the Province of Sondrio in the Italian area of Lombardy. It is located about 100 kilometres (62 mi) north of Milan and about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northwest of Sondrio. As of 31 December 2004, it had a populace of 7,263 and a location of 11.1 kilometres (6.9 mi). The surrounding alpine region is called Valchiavenna, located to the north of Lake Como.
Valchiavenna is passed through by the rivers Mera and Liro and can be divided into 3 parts which branch from the convergence of these rivers.
